Scytonema schmidtii Gomont (1901: 210) (Fig. 13F–I).

Filaments entangled on substrata or solitary, 16.17–28.81 µm wide. Sheath firm, 1.3–3.93 µm wide, slight lamellated, intensity striate, yellowish-brown to intense brown. Trichomes cylindrical, false geminate branched, constricted.Apical cell rounded. Cell sub-quadratic to short, 10.69–24.21 µm wide, 3.19–9.78 µm long, ratio l/w = 0.47. Cell content homogenous, blue-green. Heterocyte elliptical to short, 12.56–18.87 µm wide, 5.73–11.48 µm long, in intercalary position. Hormogonia 6–14 cells, constricted, with intercalary heterocyte or not.

Habitat: —Rock fully exposed to the sun; associated with Gloeocapsa novacekii, Gloeocapsopsis dvorakii, Stigonema fremyi, Microcoleus vaginatus and Hassallia aff. andreassenii .
