Stigonema fremyi Sant’Anna, Kaštovský, Hentschke & Komárek (2013: 8) (Fig. 14G–I).

Filaments multiseriate, erect, 19.15–37.89 µm wide. Filaments and branches not clearly distinguishable, 1–3 cells in apical portion. Sheath firm, non-lamellated, brown. Cells round to elongated in young filaments and round in mature filaments 5.16–18.65 µm wide. Cell content granulated, blue-green. Heterocyte spherical, semi-spherical, lateral to intercalary position, 7.69–11.16 µm wide. Hormogonia numerous, developed in the apical branches.

Habitat: —Rock fully exposed to the sun; associated with Scytonema shmidtii, Microcoleus vaginatus and Hassallia aff. andreassenii .
