Etymology. This species is named in memoriam after Mr. Seong-Mo Choi. He was the first author' best friend, an alumnus of Kee-Jeong Ahn’s lab, and an enthusiastic supporter of this study. He passed away as a result of a heartbreaking drowning accident during summer 2008.
Diagnosis. This species can be distinguished from the other species of Brounea by the following combination of characters: large eye, one-half length of temple (Fig. 2 g); male gula with triangular depression bearing dense setae (Fig. 2 r: arrow); male abdominal sternite VI with setose round depression at middle (Fig. 3 q: arrow); antennomeres 4–7 longer than wide, 8–10 subquadrate; median lobe triangular, as wide as parameres (Fig. 3 g).
Description. Length 1.6–1.8 mm. Body brown, elytra, legs, antennae and maxillary palpi paler (Fig. 1 g). Head. Head triangular, widest across temples (Figs. 2 g, 3m). Male gula with triangular depression bearing dense setae (Fig. 2 r: arrow). Female head unmodified. Antennomeres 1–2 elongate, 3 subquadrate, 4–7 longer than wide, 8–10 subquadrate. Frontal sulcus deep and reaching to one-third length of eye from apex of rostrum (Figs. 2 g, 3m). Posterior frontal fovea oval (Fig. 3 m). Eye large and prominent, one-half length of temple (Figs. 2 g, 3m). Thorax. Prosternum as long as wide, widest one-third length. Elytra rectangular (Fig. 1 g). Hind wings of both sexes welldeveloped. Meso- and metaventrites together trapezoidal in ventral view, longer than wide. Abdomen. Abdominal tergite IV with pair of oval or transverse patches of microtrichia. Male abdominal sternite VI with setose round depression at middle (Fig. 3 q: arrow). Female sternite unmodified. Aedeagus. Median lobe triangular, as wide as parameres (Fig. 3 g). Phallobase symmetrical and rounded (Fig. 3 g). Parameres blunt and symmetrical with setae at tip (Fig. 3 g).
Distribution. Auckland (AK), Coromandel (CL), Northland (ND) (Fig. 5: triangles).
Habitat. Most specimens of this species were collected using flight intercept or window traps, or by sifting litter in broadleaf, hardwood, kauri, or podocarp forests.
