Lepistemon glaber Handel-Mazzetti (1934: 7) .
Type:— CHINA. Guangxi [Kwangsi]: Baise [Poseh], (?Napo Xian), Baisheng Town [Bako Sha], elev. ca. 360 m, 11 September 1928, R. C. Ching 7344 (lectotype designated here, PE00029558; isolectotypes A00054665, CQNM0020751, IBSC0004740, NAS00072342, NAS00211192 ).
= Merremia hederacea (N.L.Burman 1768: 77) H.Hallier (1893: 118) .
Note: —In the protologue, Handel-Mazzetti (1934) cited a single gathering R. C. Ching 7344, but he did not specify the herbarium where the type specimen is deposited. In searching for the type material in various herbaria, six duplicates were traced from A (00054665), CQNM (0020751), IBSC (0004740), NAS (00072342), NAS (00211192) and PE (00029558). All of them are syntypes since no holotype was designated under Art. 9.6 (Turland et al. 2018). Both the duplicates at A and PE bear the field label of “Herbarium of the Metropolitan Museum of Natural History, Academia Sinica, Nanking, China ”, which was the original title of Ching’s collection in 1928. The duplicate PE00029558 bears additional typewritten annotation “ Lepistemon chingianus Hand. -Mzt., sp. nov.” determined by Handel-Mazzetti in 1933 and seal of “type” while others stamped “isotype”. Furthermore, it is the only one bearing the identification label implying that Handel-Mazzetti has seen it before the name published. It is presumed that Handel-Mazzetti changed the specific epithet to “ glabra ” when he published the species. Therefore, the duplicate PE00029558 is here chosen as lectotype for the name.
