Key to species of the genus Dendarus from Iran and Turkmenistan

(on males = strongly widened protarsomeres 1–4)

1 Posterior angles of pronotum acute, strongly protruding to humeral region of elytra (Fig. 2D). Strial punctures large, strongly elongate, sparse, located each in very deep wide impression; interstriae slightly convex (Fig. 2D). Mesotarsi strongly widened, mesotarsomeres 2 and 3 weakly transverse; mesotarsomeres 1–3 with full hair brush on sole (Fig. 2E)....... D. crenulatus

- Posterior angles of pronotum from obtuse to right-angled, sometimes weakly protruding, but not deeply inserted to humeral region of elytra (Figs 2A, 3A, E, 5A, 6A, 7A). Strial punctures small or moderate in size, round (Figs 1A, 2A, 4A, 6A, 7B, 8A, D), sometimes comparatively strongly impressed, but in this case very sparse (19–22 punctures in one row) (Figs 3A, E); interstriae flattened. Mesotarsi narrow or slightly widened, mesotarsomeres longitudinal; only mesotarsomeres 2 and 3 can be with full brush or reduced tuft (Figs 1E, F, 2B, 4B, 6B, 8B)................................................... 2

2 Body completely matt. Elytral striae with sparse deeply impressed 19–22 round punctures in each row (Figs 3A, D, E).............................................................................................. D. leonhardi

- Body more or less shiny. Elytral striae with not impressed or weakly impressed 27–30 round small punctures in each row (Figs 2A, 4A, 6A, 7B, 8A, D)................................................................................ 3

3 Pronotum and head shiny, and elytra matt (Fig. 6A). Puncturation of pronotum uneven: fine and sparse, with round punctures at middle and sharply coarse and dense, elongate, often merged punctures on lateral sides (Fig. 6A)...... D. transcaspicus

- Dorsal side uniformly, strongly, moderately or weakly shiny (Figs 1A, 2A, 4A, 8A, D). Puncturation of pronotum uniform (dense or sparse), with round punctures................................................................... 4

4 Protibiae narrow, 4.3 times as long as wide (at widest level) (Fig. 9G)............................... D. vagabundus

- Protibiae wide, 3.25–3.6 times as long as wide (at widest level) (Figs 9A, E)...................................... 5

5 Protibiae with deep and wide notch on inner side and large acute tooth (Fig. 9A); protibia much wider at level of this tooth than at apex; mesotarsi with 1 small brush on sole of tarsomere 2 (Fig. 1E, F) or additionally with reduced tuft on sole of tarsomere 3; rarely mesotarsomeres without brush or tuft................................................... D. armeniacus

- Protibiae with small notch on inner side and small straight tooth (Fig. 9E); protibiae slightly wider at level of tooth than at apex; mesotarsi with full brush on tarsomeres 2 and 3 (Fig. 4B)...................................... D. matthewsi sp. n.
