Neopleurotomoides Shuto, 1971 .

Type species: Clathurella rufoapicata Schepman, 1913, by original designation.

Remarks: Bouchet & Warén (1980) compared Neopleurotomoides with Pleurotomella Verrill, 1872, and mentioned the protoconch sculpture as the only difference between these genera. Indeed the protoconch of Neopleurotomoides is unique in having a middle keel and axial riblets above and below it (Shuto, 1971: 5, pl. 1, fig. 2). Aliceia Dautzenberg & Fischer (1897b: pl. 4, fig. 16) and Famelica Bouchet & Warén (1980: figs. 276–281) have a somewhat similar protoconch, but in both these genera the axial ribs are restricted to the area below the keel. However, Bouchet & Warén (1980) also considered, shells which have the same kind of protoconch as Famelica and Aliceia as Neopleurotomoides .
