Anoplodesmus splendidus (Verhoeff, 1936)

Jonespeltis splendidus Verhoeff, 1936b: 115 (D). India, Kerala, Trivandrum, near Kovalam; later recorded from many other places in India.

Jonespeltis splendidus —Attems, 1937: 99 (D), as a junior synonym of Anoplodesmus anthracinus Pocock, 1895 . Jonespeltis splendidus— Prabhu, 1959: 330 (M); 1961: 717 (M); 1962: 417 (M); Nair & Prabhu, 1971: 1 (M); Nair, 1973: 207 (M); 1980: 607 (M); 1981a: 7 (M); 1981b: 186 (M); 1983: 85 (M); Unni, 1976: 390 (M); Bano et al., 1976: 1 (M); Bano, 1978: 387, 388 (M); 1983: 169 (M); 1992: 327 (M, R); 1993: 8 (M); 1996b: 562 (M, R); Bano & Krishnamoorthy, 1977: 561 (M); 1978a: 106 (M); 1978b: 387, 388 (M); 1979: 573 (M); 1981a: 631 (M); 1981b: 87 (M); 1985: 48 (M); Chowdaiah & Kanaka, 1979: 18 (M); Rangaswamy et al., 1983: 10 (M); Achar, 1987: 149 (M); Devi & Prabhoo, 1990: 48 (M); Bai, 1997b: 464 (D); Bai & Indra, 1997: 234 (R, D); Koilraj et al., 1999: 530 (M); Sridhar & Ashwini, 2013: 6 (M).

Anoplodesmus splendidus — Jeekel, 1965: 107, 112 (D), revalidated; 1968: 81 (M); Moritz & Fischer, 1978: 109 (M); Nguyen, 2010: 53 (M); Nguyen & Sierwald, 2013: 1278 (M).

Remarks: Anoplodesmus splendidus is presently considered valid (cf. Nguyen & Sierwald 2013), following Jeekel (1965), even though Bano (1996a) and Shelley & Lehtinen (1998) regarded it as a formal junior synonym of A. saussurii (Humbert, 1865) . We suspect that A. tanjoricus (Pocock, 1892) is more likely the senior name because they share the same couplet in Jeekel’s (1965) key.
