Type locality. Mediterranean Sea (Grube 1840).

Distribution. Kenya (Laidlaw 1903); Cape Verde (Laidlaw 1906); Susaki and Seto, Japan (Kato 1937); Naples and Sicily, Italy (Kato 1944); Port Jackson, Australia (Kato 1944); Bay Weligama, Sri Lanka (Kato 1944); Bay Gaira, Colombia (Quiroga 2008); Canary Archipelago: El Medano, Tenerife (De Vera et al. 2009) (Fig. 1, T4; Table 1 and 2).

Biology. De Vera and collaborators (2009) found Cestoplana rubrocinta in the intertidal zone at depths of 1 metre, in the spring time.

Taxonomic remarks. Characterised by an elongated, ribbon-shaped body, background colour pale orange, almost transparent or whitish, and three thin orange longitudinal lines, two marginal and one along the middle longitudinal body. Without tentacles or pseudotentacles.
