Eunice afra paupera Fauvel in Pruvot, 1930:69 .— Day 1975: 194.

Remarks. This species has been reported from Cape Naturaliste (Western Australia) as a subspecies of E. afra Peters, 1854 (Day 1975) and from Queensland (Hartmann-Schröder 1991). Originally described from the Philippines, this species has been reported often as a subspecies of E. afra from many warm water locations. It differs from E. afra in that the branchiae have a maximum three filaments, whereas in E. afra as many as seven or eight may be present. No material identifiable as this species was found in the collections of the Australian Museum. Thus, we could not confirm the presence of this species in Australian waters.
