LT: In monte Karak in parte orientali desertorum Kisil-Kum sito“ [Karak Mt., Kizil-Kum desert, Turkmenistan]. Type material (lectotype) in ZMMU .

Synonymy:

= Holcocerus püngeleri Rothschild, 1912, in: Seitz, Gross-Schmett. Erde 2 (1): 452.

LT: Transcaspien, Imam-Baba [Turkmenistan]. Type material (holotype) in BMNH .

Distribution. Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, S Kazakhstan, Jordan, Israel, N Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman (Christoph 1887a, 1888b, 1893; Staudinger & Rebel 1901; Daniel 1961; Barou 1967; Falkovich 1986; Weisert 1997; Yakovlev 2006a, 2010).

Remarks. So far, two of the three subspecies of this species viz., H. gloriosa gloriosa (Erschoff, 1874) and H. gloriosa mesopotamicus Watkins & Buxton, 1921, have been reported from Iran ( Yakovlev 2011a). According to Wieser et al. (2001), H. gloriosa laudabilis Staudinger, 1899 was reported from NE Iran (Golestan Prov.: Golestan National Park [Alagol, Dasht]; North Khorasan Prov.: Golestan National Park [Almeh]), but the authors believe that this subspecies is only distributed in Arabian Peninsula and the nominal subspecies are found in the northern and central parts of Iran.
