Angola, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa and Sudan.
Nomenclatural notes.
Solms-Laubach (1883) clearly designates the specimen at B as the holotype for his new taxon Monochoria vaginalis var. africana . However, since the holotype was destroyed during WWII (Cook 1989), a lectotype is needed. The specimen at PRE is in great condition and possesses a complete preserved individual, thus being selected by us as the lectotype.
