Distribution in Iran. Mazandaran, Tehran (Wagner 1961), Iran (no locality cited) (Péricart 1990; Linnavuori & Hosseini 2000).
General distribution. Mediterranean basin, Near East, Caucasus, Central Asia (Lindskog 1995). Comments. Pilose populations from Romania, Turkey, and the Near East were distinguished as M. variabilis connectens Horváth, 1888, but this character represents no more than a variation as occurs in many other groups.
