Trechisibus lemairei n. sp.

(Figs. 7 a, 7b, 7c, 7d, 16)

Type locality. Perou, Huánuco, Quebrada Queulacocha, 3,800 m.

Diagnosis. A Trechisibus species 3.89–4.17 mm long, piceous black, moderately shiny; legs, antennae and mouth parts dark brown. Hind angles of pronotum right or delicately obtuse. Elytra oval, not depressed on disc, with 2–3 discal setigerous punctures (in addition to the preapical pore) on the 3rd stria, the first at about 1/4 from base and the others behind middle. T. lemairei n. sp. is distinguished from all other Trechisibus species distributed in Central Peru by the morphology of the median lobe of aedeagus, which does not show an enlarged basal bulb (enlarged in T. infuscatus, T. quierocochensis and some others) and by the dark appendices (testaceous in Trechisibus tripunctatus Jeannel, 1958 and Trechisibus trisetosus Jeannel, 1958).

Type Series. HT ♂, Peru, Dept . Huánuco, Quebrada Queulacocha, m 3,800, VI.1981, legit M. Curti (CAl). PTT: 2 ♀♀, same data as the holotype (CAl, CGi).

Description. Habitus as in Fig. 7 a. Overall length of the HT ♂ (from labrum to apex of elytra) 4.15 mm. Body piceous black, obovate, moderately shiny. Microsculpture more distinct in females, which are duller than males, on elytra in transverse meshes superficially impressed, near base of pronotum in isodiametric meshes more distinctly impressed. Antennae, legs, clypeus and labrum dark brown, tarsi and palpi lighter. Brachypterous.

Head large respect to pronotum, eyes moderately convex; temples slightly convex and delicately pubescent, half as long as eyes. Microsculpture superficially impressed on vertex, but very marked (almost wrinkled) towards eyes, laterally to frontal impressions, which are arcuate and deep. Clypeus with two apical setae in a deep depression on each side; labrum transverse, 6-setose, distinctly excavate at apex. Frons between eyes convex. Antennae moderately long, reaching the basal 5th of elytra.

Pronotum moderately convex on disc, transverse (width/length = 1.53), with base distinctly wider than anterior margin (Fig. 16). Disc almost shiny with very superficial microsculpture (more distinct in females), more strongly impressed near base. Sides nearly evenly rounded on whole length, very shortly sinuate before base; basal margin rectilinear. Front angles not prominent; hind angles right or delicately obtuse. Mid longitudinal line distinctly impressed between the submarginal sulci. Lateral margins wide and broadened towards base; anterior and posterior margins bordered only at sides. Two lateral setae on each side, one at hind angles and one at about 3/4 from base.

Elytra oval (length/width=1.39), fairly convex and hardly depressed on disc. Microsculpture in transverse meshes, more distinctly impressed in females. Shoulders rounded with humeral angle hardly distinct. The basal margin interrupted in correspondence with the 5th stria. A short scutellar stria is present, as well as a juxtascutellar pore near base, in correspondence with the 2nd interval. Sides moderately rounded; lateral border narrow over the whole length. Two-three discal setigerous punctures in small foveae, the 1st at basal 3rd or 4th of elytra and in the 4th interval, more or less adjacent to the 3rd stria, the 2nd behind middle and usually on the 3th stria, the 3rd, when present, at apical 5th of elytra; preapical pore at about middle of the recurrent striole. Umbilicate series of 4+2+2 punctures, with the groups widely distanced from each other. 1st–5th striae very superficial and hardly visible, the others obliterated. Intervals flat. Elytral apex broad and rounded. The recurrent striola short and hardly arcuate, with an apical carina.

Legs short. Protibiae delicately arcuate towards apex and externally superficially furrowed. Tarsi pubescent on the upper side. The 1st and 2nd male protarsomeres asymmetrically dilated.

Median lobe of aedeagus moderately slender, in lateral view the inferior edge nearly straight and delicately bent downward before apex (Fig. 7 b), which is short and, in dorsal view, sinuate at sides and pointed, blunt at extreme apex (Fig. 7 c). The internal armature is made by a robust copulatory piece shaped as a long spoon (Fig. 7 b). Parameres narrow and long, almost equally long and longer than half of the median lobe, each provided with 3 apical setae (Fig. 7 d).

Etymology. This species is dedicated to Jean-Michel Lemaire, a French entomologist specialist in Mediterranean Coleoptera, who donated the type specimens of this new species to the authors.

Distribution and habitat. At present Trechisibus lemairei n. sp. is only recorded from the type locality. The specimens of the type series were collected at 3,800 m a.s.l., presumably in an Andean grassland habitat.

Relationships. Trechisibus lemairei n. sp. is probably a close relative of many Trechisibus species distributed in the Andes of Central Peru, all showing a male aedeagus provided with an internal armature shaped like a long spoon: among them T. tripunctatus Jeannel, 1958, T. infuscatus Mateu, 1978, T. quierocochensis Mateu, 1978, T. lacunensis Mateu, 1978, T. gonzalesi Etonti & Mateu, 1992, T. olympicus Allegro, Giachino & Sciaky, 2008, T. missionis Allegro, Giachino & Sciaky, 2008 and T. chacasinus Allegro, Giachino & Sciaky, 2008 .
