Salmoneus singaporensis Anker 2003: 284, fig. 1, 2, 3a, b.
Salmoneus hilarulus (not De Man 1910)— Johnson 1962: 49 (part.).
Material examined. Indonesia. 1 non-ov. specimen (RMNH. CRUS.D.56752), southern Lombok, Teluk Sekotong, sand-mud flat adjacent to small mangrove, burrow, suction pump, 0.1–0.2 m, leg. D.L. Rahayu et al., 14 May 2014 [LB-St6-17].
Taxonomic account. See Anker (2003).
Habitat. Near-shore mud flats near mangroves; “commensally” in burrows of unknown hosts, possibly larger snapping shrimps, Alpheus spp. Depth range: intertidal and possibly shallow subtidal, down to about 5 m.
Distribution. Indo-West Pacific: Singapore and Indonesia (possible new record) (Anker 2003; present study; see discussion below).
Remarks. Salmoneus singaporensis was hitherto known only from the holotype specimen from Singapore, collected in 1959 (Anker 2003). The single specimen from Lombok is quite small (cl 2.8 mm) and appears to be immature compared to the much larger holotype of S. singaporensis (cl 8.9 mm). It differs from the holotype by the dentition on the major chela fingers, with the proximal teeth being smaller, and the serration extending all the way to the fingertips. In the holotype, the dentition on the chela fingers consists of very large proximal teeth and smaller distal teeth, the most distal of them situated at about 0.7 length of the fingers, i.e. the serration does not extend to the fingertips (Anker 2003: fig. 2f). Whether this difference is age-related or of specific importance cannot be ascertained with only one immature specimen currently available. The colour pattern of S. cf. singaporensis (Fig. 21) is similar to that of the closely related S. rostratus Barnard, 1962 (Anker & Marin 2006: fig. 7b, c).
