12. Celmisia cockayniana Petrie (1911: 182) .

Type:β€” NEW ZEALAND. South Island, Mt Fyffe, Seaward Kaikoura Range, 4000 ft., 10 Nov 1892, L. Cockayne s.n. (first-step lectotype WELT SP2142 designated by Allan 1961: 626; second-step lectotype WELT SP2142A! designated here; isolectotype WELT SP2142B!).

Notes:β€” In the protologue, D. Petrie indicated that L. Cockayne made more than one collection: β€œFor specimens of this species I am indebted to Dr. L. Cockayne, who collected them so along as 1892”. Allan (1961: 626) first lectotypified this species based on L. Cockayne [no collection number indicated] (WELT SP2142). This collection is divided into two sheets (WELT SP2142 A and B); however, only WELT SP2142 A is labeled as holotype and there is no clear indication that both sheets were part of the same specimen. Additionally, since WELT SP2142 A is a more complete specimen (two complete plants with three and two capitula versus a few leaves, one scape, and two capitula in WELT SP2142 B), according to the ICN Art. 9.17 (Turland et al. 2018), I have chosen it as a second-step lectotype.

Allan (1961:626) also mentioned one original specimen at Kew (L. Cockayne 1950, K 882077 [image!]). However, the collection date says Jan 1892, which is different from the collection date of the lectotype.
