Material examined. Paratypes: GERMANY, SchleswigHolstein, Bornhöved, moist grassland, emergence trap, 15.v.1989, K. Heller, 2 ɗ (PKHC). Other material. FINLAND, Ta (Tavastia australis), Somero, Koisthuhta, 14.–15.vi.1986, H. Hippa, 1 ɗ (MZH), Tb (Tavastia borealis), Toivakka, Ruostesuo mire (6886:443), Malaise trap, 5.v.–8.vi.2003, J. Salmela, 1 ɗ (MZH).
Description (male). Head (Fig. 5): Eye bridge 3 facets wide. Prefrons with 32 setae, clypeus with 1 seta. Length/width of antennal flagellomere 4 2.95 (Fig. 5 A). Palpomere 1 of maxillary palp with 1 or 2 setae. Thorax: Anterior pronotum with 3 setae, episternum 1 with 7 setae. Wing: Length 1.7 mm, width/length 0.40–0.45, c/ w 0.75, R1/R 0.70. Legs (Fig. 6 B): Length of front basitarsomere/length of front tibia 0.55. Abdomen: Sternite 8 with 3–8 setae. Hypopygium (Fig. 2 A, B): Sternite 10 with 1 seta on each half.
Female. Unknown.
Discussion. Corynoptera fera is similar to C. robustior in having the gonostylus distinctly narrowed toward its apex and in having the tegmen large, much broader than long (Fig. 2). Corynoptera fera can be distinguished from C. robustior by having the tegmen relatively smaller, the gonocoxite and the gonostylus more richly setose (Fig. 2), and the antennal flagellomeres and their setae and necks longer (Fig. 5 A and D).
Corynoptera fera is also larger (wing length 1.7 mm vs. 1.1 mm). See also under C. armigera .
