Medetera vagans Becker, 1917

Material examined. Bohemia, Nová Hůrka (6846), 49°09′N 13°20′E, peat bog, MT, 20.viii.–24.ix.1999, M. Barták & Š. Kubík lgt., 1 ♁ (NMPC) .

Distribution. Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Norway, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden and Switzerland.

Status in CZ. Previously recorded only from Nový Hradec Králové in eastern Bohemia, based on a single female specimen (Olejníček 1984). This specimen (12.v.1961, V. Zeman lgt.) is deposited in NMPC and its identity is uncertain. All additional Czech specimens of M. vagans in NMPC (Spálenec, Kárané, and Vráž, all J. Olejníček det.) were found to be misidentified, belonging to externally similar M. infumata . However, the occurrence of M. vagans in CZ (Bohemia) is confirmed by the male specimen newly recorded herein.

Ecology. Unknown.

Remarks. Hypopygial characters of the examined male match those of the specimen from Russia in NMPC, identified by Negrobov, and also compared to figures in Negrobov & Stackelberg (1971 –1977, figs 911–913).
