Elachiptera Macquart, 1835: 621 . Type species: Chlorops brevipennis Meigen (orig. des.)

Diagnosis: Chloropidae, Oscinellinae with the following combination of characters: arista broad, strap-like, first flagellomere reniform; frontal triangle shining; at least two fronto-orbital setae well-developed, distinctly longer than interfrontal setulae; one anterior and one posterior notopleural setae (second posterior notopleural seta sometimes present dorsal to first, but much weaker); scutellum trapezoidal, triangular or elongate, dorsally flattened, frequently rugose, scutellar bristles arising from tubercles.
