Spongia (Spongia) fuscoides Van Soest & Hooper, 2020: 31 .

Van Soest et al. 2020 errroneously erected this name as a nomen novum for Spongia agaricina subsp. corlosia (sic) var. fusca Hyatt, 1877: 524 (from Nassau, Bahamas), an alleged junior homonym of Spongia communis fusca Lamarck, 1814 . Because Hyatt’s name is not available for being a four-name taxon it cannot come into homonymy with an available name (ICZN art. 54.1). The present species name is unavailable. The specimen likely belongs to Spongia (Spongia) tubulifera Lamarck, 1814 in accordance with above discussed Spongia agaricina subsp. coelosia var. fusca Hyatt, 1877).
