Spongia agaricina subsp. dura var. typica Hyatt, 1877: 522, pl. 15 fig. 6.

Euspongia officinalis var. rotunda; Von Lendenfeld 1889: 269.

Hyatt’s name is not an available name (as it has a fourth name, ICZN art. 45.5). Apart from Von Lendenfeld’s assignment of this to Euspongia oficinalis var. rotunda, there are no other suggestions in the literature. I propose to assign this material from the Caribbean region provisionally to Spongia (Spongia) barbara Duchassaing & Michelotti, 1864 because of its hard consistency (‘ dura ’), a typical property of that species.
