Spongia coelosia Duchassaing & Michelotti, 1864: 31 .

The species (which was misspelled in the main text as corlosia, but corrected in the Errata) was described by Duchassaing & Michelotti from St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, approximate coordinates 18.37°N 64.9°W. It is currently considered accepted (De Voogd et al. 2023) as a default assignment but it is incertae sedis, as it is not illustrated and no material has survived (Van Soest et al. 1983: 203, table I). I propose to reassign it provisionally to Spongia (Spongia) tubulifera Lamarck, 1814 as the most likely identity based on Hyatt’s and Von Lendenfeld’s treatment of Spongia corlosia (sic).
