Geodia variospiculosa var. clavigera Thiele, 1898

(Fig. 6B)

Geodia variospiculosa var. clavigera Thiele, 1898: 11, 67, pl. VI fig. 7b.

The variety was described by Thiele from Japan, no further locality data, no information on type specimens. The difference with the typical variety is found in the presence of?reduced protriaenes in the form of tylostylote or stylote modifications and also in the shorter size of the oxeas. Such modifications are not uncommon in Geodia species and have usually little taxonomic significance. As proposed above the variety is to be merged with the species Geodia variospiculosa Thiele, 1898 .
