Described by Czerniavsky from Sebastopol, Crimea, approximate coordinates 44.62°N 33.5°E, depth 10 m (syntype of this taxon ZIN-RAS 11402 – “Syntypes, Sevastopol vel Muchaljaka. Prof. 10 metr. 1860. Ac. Brandt ”).

As proposed above, this is a junior synonym of Haliclona caucasica (Czerniavsky, 1880) .
