Described by Czerniavsky from the Sinus Novorossijsk, Black Sea coast of Russia, approximate coordinates 44.68°N 37.82°E (syntypes ZIN-RAS 11413 & 11415, coll. Czerniavsky, 1870/IV). Above I proposed to merge all varieties of S. intermedia under the species combination Petrosia (Petrosia) intermedia (Czerniavsky, 1880) .
