Halichondria bowerbanki var. stellifera Breton, Girard & Lagardère, 1995: 15, fig. 9.
The variety was described by Breton et al. from Le Havre, France, approximate coordinates 49.483°N 0.1°E, depth 2 m (material kept in the Muséum d’Histoire Naturelle du Havre and in the Laboratoire de Biologie Marine in Concarneau, Bretagne, France). Since it was described after 1960 it is an unavailable name (ICZN art. 15.2). It appears to be an encrusting form of the common North Atlantic species Halichondria (Halichondria) bowerbanki Burton, 1930b .
