Bates (1885) described Atrypanius infimus based on a single specimen from Panama (Fig. 39). Later, Monné & Tavakilian (2011) described Nyssodrysternum lanceolatum based on males and females (Fig. 40) also from Panama. The comparison of the original descriptions and photographs of the holotype of the former and a paratype of the latter allow us to conclude that they belong to the same species. Therefore, we are synonymizing Nyssodrysternum lanceolatum with Atrypanius infimus .
Currently, the species is known from Costa Rica, Panama, Bolivia, French Guiana, and Brazil (Rondônia, Espírito Santo) (Monné, 2022).
