Type species: BOydaia aureliani Fain, 1955 by original designation.
Diagnosis. Palps with 1 segment. Hypostome with 2 pairs of setae. Propodonotal shield absent. Propodonotal region with 4 pairs of setae (ve and se absent). Hysteronotal region with 5 pairs of setae (h2 absent). Genital series with 3 pairs of setae. Pseudanal series with 2 pairs of setae. Agenital setae absent. Setae 1a, 3a present, 4a absent. Number of leg setae: coxae 1–1–1–1, trochanters 0–0–0–0, femora 4–3–3–2, genua 4–4–3–3, tibiae 5–3–3–3. Setae situated in anterior part of tarsi I–IV normally developed.
Remarks. The monotypic genus associated with birds of the order Strigiformes and recorded in the Afrotropical, Australian, Palaearctic and Panamanian regions (Fain 1955b, 1956a, 1963a, 1963d; Domrow 1969, 1991; Dusbabek & Cerny 1970).
