Type species: Neoboydaia psittaculae Fain, 1962 by original designation.

Diagnosis. Palps with 1–2 segments. Hypostome with 1–2 pairs of setae. Propodonotal shield absent. Propodonotal region with 5 pairs of setae (se absent). Hysteronotal region with 5 pairs of setae (h2 absent). Agenital series with 1 pair of setae. Genital series with 3 pairs of setae. Pseudanal series with 2 pairs of setae. Setae 1a, 3a and 4a present. Number of leg setae: coxae 2–1–1–1, trochanters 1(0)–1(0)–0–0, femora 4(3)–3(2)–2–3(2), genua 4–4–4(3)–4(3), tibiae 5–2(3)–2(3)–3. Setae situated in anterior part of tarsi I–IV reduced to rod-like microsetae.

Remarks. Species of this genus are associated with birds of the order Psittaciformes, and recorded in the Afrotropical, Australian, Oriental, and Neotropical regions (Fain 1962c, 1963d; Fain & Lukoschus 1972; Domrow 1969, 1991). The Afrotropical fauna comprises one of the three described species: PsittabOydaia psittaculae (Fain, 1962) .
