Genus Phoenicopteriella Fain, 1970

Phoenicopteriella Fain, 1970: 323 .

Type species: Phoenicopteriella mirabilis Fain, 1970 by original designation.

Diagnosis. Palps with 3 segments. Hypostome with 1–2 pairs of setae. Propodonotal shield absent. Propodonotal region with 6 pairs of setae. Hysteronotal region with 5 pairs of setae (h2 absent). Agenital series with 1–2 pair of setae. Genital series with 2–3 pairs of setae. Pseudanal series with 1 pair of setae. Setae 1a, 3a and 4a present. Number of leg setae: coxae 1(2)–0(1)–1–1, trochanters 1–1–0–0, femora 7(5)–4–3–4(3), genua 4–4–3–3, tibiae 5– 3–3–3. Setae situated in anterior part of tarsi I–IV normally developed.

Remarks. Members of this genus are associated with birds of the orders Anseriformes and Phoenicopteriformes, and recorded in the Afrotropical, Nearctic, and Palaearctic regions (Fain 1956a, 1970; Clark 1958; Fain & Hyland 1975; Spicer 1977; Zabludovskaya 1998). This genus includes two species; both of them are recorded in Africa: PhOenicOpteriella mirabilis Fain, 1970, Ph. wOmersleyi (Fain, 1955) .
