Polana (Varpulana) bahiensis sp. nov.

(Figs 4–15, 97)

Diagnosis. Forewing (Fig. 7) with six black maculae. Style (Fig. 13) with ventral protrusion short with apex serrated. Aedeagus (Figs 14, 15) with atrial processes very slender and curved dorsally, as long as shaft; shaft with a very slender pair of processes at mid-length of shaft, as long as shaft.

Description (male). Length 6.3mm (n=3). Head (Fig. 4) in dorsal view with median length approximately four-tenths interocular width. Other characteristics as in generic description.

Coloration. Head and thorax (Fig. 4) yellow without maculae. Face (Fig. 5) without maculae. Prothorax with proepimeron (Fig. 6), with black stripe below pronotal carina. Forewing (Fig. 7) yellow and most translucent toward apex with black maculae on: cross veins of discal cell, apex of anal veins and two smoky on near wing apex. Legs yellow.

Male terminalia. Sternite VIII (Fig. 8) 1.9 times wider than long; posterior margin broadly rounded. Pygofer (Fig. 9) 1.6 times longer than maximum height; dorsal margin with a short process at base; apex tapered and rounded; posterior margin (Fig. 10), in ventral view, with slight protrusion near apex. Subgenital plate (Fig. 11) 3.0 times longer than wide; apex tapered and subacute. Connective (Fig. 12) T-shaped, with rami as wide as length of stalk. Style (Fig. 12), in dorsal view, with outer lobe truncated; in lateral view (Fig. 13), ventral protrusion short, about 1.5 times longer than its maximum width, apex serrated; blade the same height along its entire length, apical portion slightly curved dorsally, apex subacute. Aedeagus (Figs 14, 15) with atrial processes very slender and curved dorsally, as long as shaft, somewhat enlarged near base, apex acute; shaft wider near base and slender at apex, with very slender pair of processes at mid-length of shaft, as long as shaft, with acute apex; shaft apex membranous, curved anterad and then posterad, without apical processes.

Female unknown.

Etymology. The new species name refers to the State of Bahia where the type-series was collected.

Material examined. Holotype male: " Brasil, Bahia, 10 Km NE \ Encruzilhada \ 15.483°S 40.824°W \ 830m 15.xii.2012 \ G. Melo & P. Grossi leg" (DZUP) . Paratypes: 2 ♂, " Brasil, Bahia,\ região de Ilhéus \ 2008-2009 Malaise \ K. Nakayama leg." (DZUP) .

Remarks. Polana (V.) bahiensis sp. nov. is most similar to P. (V.) pandara in having the atrial processes very slender and aedeagal shaft with processes at mid-length. However in the new species the shaft processes are as long as the shaft itself and in P. (V.) pandara the shaft processes are three times shorter than the shaft.
