Generic diagnosis. Body small. Micropterous. Head hypognathous. Fastigium verticis conical, apex obtuse, furrowed in midline. Eyes subglobular, protruding forwards or outwards. Apical segment of maxillary palpi slightly enlarged. Dorsum of head usually with 4 brown or black brown stripes. Anterior margin of pronotum slightly straight, posterior margin protruding backwards, lateral lobe longer than high, without humeral sinus. Ventral margins of all femora unarmed; procoxa with 1 spine, pro- and mesotibia with some spines on ventral margin, tibial tympana of protibia opened on both sides; genicular lobes of postfemur with apices obtuse, posttibia with 1 pair of dorsal apical spurs and 2 pairs of ventral apical spurs. Tegmina short, reaching or slightly surpassing posterior margin of pronotum, female tegmina overlaping. Hind wings absent. Male cerci variable, genitalia membranous; subgenital plate narrowing, subapex with styli on ventral margin. Female subgenital plate wider than long. Ovipositor short, slightly curved upwards, basal part stout, apices of dorsal valvulae sharply pointed, apices of ventral ones with a small distinct or indistnct terminal hook. Body usually black brown.

Discussion. Yamasaki (1986) thought Phlugiolopsis yaeyamensis from the Ryukyu Islands is closely related to Xiphidiopsis minutus from Lushan (Guling), Jiangxi, China, and inferred that the true distributional area of the genus Phlugiolupsis is in the Indo-Chinese subregion of the Oriental Region, including the Ryukyus. Meanwhile, he deduced that P. henryi may also derived from the subregion. We analysed the distribution of the genus Phlugiolupsis in China, and considered that the differentiation center of the genus Phlugiolupsis is possible in the west mountain and hilly subarea of Central China.
