Subgenus Cymomya Väisänen, 1984

Subgenus Cymomya is characterized by the lack of the male mid-coxal spur, the presence of the bare mediotergite, and the vivid contrast of yellow and dark brown; the abdominal tergites being yellow with posterior margins dark. The sternal synsclerite of the male hypopygium has diagnostic long, wide lateral appendages, but no groups of strong spines. The tergal part of the hypopygium has a sparse apicomedial comb of short setae, which is often turned inwards, and no lateral appendages.

The subgenus is known from the Palaearctic, Nearctic, Neotropical and Australian regions (Väisänen 1984, Matile 1991).
