Typha angustifolia Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 971. 1753.

"Habitat in Europae paludibus." RCN: 7046.

Type not designated.

Original material: Herb. A. van Royen No. 908.251-1363? (L); [icon] in Morison, Pl. Hist. Univ. 3: 246, s. 8, t. 13, f. 2. 1699; [icon] in Fuchs, Hist. Stirp.: 822, 823. 1542.

Generitype of Typha Linnaeus (vide Green, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 187. 1929).

Current name: Typha angustifolia L. ( Typhaceae).

Note: Typha latifolia L. was treated as the generitype by Wilson (TV. Amer. Fl. 17: 3. 1909; see McNeill & al. in Taxon 36: 387. 1987). However, under Art. 10.5, Ex. 7 (a voted example) of the Vienna Code, this is a type choice made under the American Code and is to be replaced under Art. 10.5b by Green’s choice (Prop. Brit. Bot.: 187. 1929) of T. angustifolia .

Guha & Mondal (in J. Econ. Taxon. Bot. 22: 519. 1998) indicated 1094.1 (LINN) as type but the sheet lacks a Species Plantarum number (i.e. “2”) and was evidently a post-1753 addition to the herbarium, and hence not original material for the name.
