Tulipa breyniana Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 306. 1753.
"Habitat in Aethiopia." RCN: 2407.
Lectotype (Lewis in J. S. African Bot. 7: 59. 1941): [icon] " Sisyrinchium exphoeniceo suave rubente flore Aethiopicum " in Breyn, Exot. Pl. Cent.: 83, t. 36. 1678.
Current name: Homeria breyniana (L.) G.J. Lewis ( Iridaceae).
Note: Lewis (in J. S. African Bot. 7: 59. 1941) formally chose the Breyn plate as the type, accepted it as belonging to what had been known as Homeria collina (Thunb.) Vent., and made the combination H. breyniana (L.) G.J. Lewis for it. However, other authors, notably Goldblatt (in J. S. African Bot. 39: 139, f. 2. 1982), have been less certain of the identity of the type and appear to have informally rejected the name in favour of H. collina .
