Generitype of Thalictrum Linnaeus, nom. cons.

Current name: Thalictrum foetidum L. ( Ranunculaceae).

Note: Thalictrum foetidum, with Herb. Clifford: 227, Thalictrum 5 (BM) there designated by Riedl, was proposed as conserved type of the genus by Jarvis (in Taxon 41: 574. 1992). Hand (Revis. Eur. Art. Thalictrum subsect. Thalictrum: 135, 305. 2001) identified the proposed conserved type as T. minus L., not T. foetidum and, in the light of the disruption that this would cause were the original proposal to be approved, proposed (in Taxon 51: 199. 2002) Hand 933, from Italy, as typ. cons. prop. This was recommended by the Committee for Spermatophyta (in Taxon 53: 821. 2004). The original conservation proposal was eventually approved by the General Committee (see review of the history of this proposal by Barrie, l.c. 55: 795-796, 798. 2006) with the conserved type as proposed by Hand.
