Polynoncus pittinoi Costa-Silva and Diéguez, 2020: 268 (original description).

Type specimen examined. HOLOTYPE. (♂ MACN – Figure 59) First label [white, typeset]: ‘ARGENT. CORDOBA / Depto. Calamuchita / El Sauce. Diciemb. 1973 / leg. Manuel Viana’. Second label [red, Vinícius Costa-Silva’s handwriting]: ‘ Polynoncus pittinoi ♂ / Costa-Silva & Diéguez / HOLOTYPE’ (Figure 59e). Type locality: ‘ Depto. Calamuchita, El Sauce’. ‘ El Sauce’ refers to Hotel El Sauce, in Santa Rosa de Calamuchita city. This hotel historically received a lot of travellers and collectors who spent time collecting around the city (Gerardo Arriagada,pers. comm.).

Differential diagnosis. Polynoncus pittinoi is similar to P. neuquen, P. gemmifer and P. haafi . This species can be distinguished from the latter two by having antennae with yellow setae ( P. gemmifer and P. haafi have black setae in antennae). Also, P. pittinoi differs from P. neuquen by having bigger elytral tubercles, with the space between tubercles on the odd-numbered costae being smaller than tubercles’ size in P. pittinoi, while this space is bigger than tubercles in P. neuquen . Geographic distribution. Polynoncus pittinoi is only known from central Argentina (Figure 48). No material was examined beyond the type series.
