Type locality. China, Guangdong prov., Lianzhou Co., Fongtongping [this locality is unknown to us].

Original type series. Holotype (LMNH), and two paratypes, one from Hunan (CAS) and the one from Sichuan (MCZ).

Current status. Valid species.

Remarks. Gressitt (1939) published Hispellinus callicanthus (Bates, 1866) as new for China. Later on, Gressitt (1950) found that several specimens actually belong to a new species he named H. chinensis .
