This old-world Afrotropical species was described from Egypt, and is widespread in Africa (Algeria, Kenya, Sudan, Uganda) and Arabian Peninsula (Table 1) (zur Strassen 1979; zur Strassen & van Harten 2006). The species was collected breeding on leaves of Ziziphus spina-christi . It is very similar to H. sorghi in general appearance and structural details. However, it can be distinguished by the characters in the key.
