Etymology. The specific epithet, to be treated as a Latin noun in apposition, was a Japanese ninja weapon similar to the embolus of the male palp of this species.
Diagnosis. Males of S. kunai are similar to those of S. cyrili and S. tenella by having a broad embolus tip; from S. tenella it differs by not having a developed ITA; from S. cyrili it can be recognized by having a smaller paraembolic projection (Fig. 163). Female spermathecae are more similar to those of S. tenella, but are more rounded (Fig. 167).
Description. Male (holotype). Total length: 2.84. Carapace orange, 1.43 long, 1.00 wide, 0.73 high (Fig. 162). Ocular quadrangle 0.92 long. Anterior eye row 0.97 wide and posterior 0.87 wide. Palp yellow (Figs 163‒164); RvTA short and rounded; no ITA; embolus tip large, twisted and developed dorsally. Legs 1423, orange. Length of femur: I 1.34, II 0.86, III 0.81, IV 1.05; patella + tibia: I 1.83, II 1.08, III 0.96, IV 1.33; metatarsus + tarsus: I 1.28, II 1.00, III 0.83, IV 1.35. Spination on ventral tibia I: 2-2-2-2. Abdomen cream-colored, dorsally with a wide anterior brown stripe and a less marked transverse brown stripe on the posterior half (Fig. 162); ventrally creamcolored with a brown spot close to spinnerets.
Female (MPEG 8895). Total length: 3.21. Carapace orange, 1.46 long, 0.98 wide, 0.63 high (Fig. 165). Ocular quadrangle 0.87 long. Anterior eye row 0.98 wide and posterior 0.88 wide. Legs 4132, yellow. Length of femur: I 0.95, II 0.75, III 0.77, IV 1.08; patella + tibia: I 1.24, II 0.96, III 0.83, IV 1.23; metatarsus + tarsus: I 0.97, II 0.81, III 0.94, IV 1.25. Spination as in male. Abdomen as in male; pattern more conspicuous. Epigyne as in Figs 166‒167.
