DISTRIBUTION: S Chad, N Central African Republic, W and E Sudan, NE Uganda, Ethiopia and Somalia south and southwest to South Africa, Namibia, Angola and SE Zaire.

SYNONYMS: abyssinicus, bea, burlacei, capensis, chora; cottoni Dollman and Burlace, 1928; excelsus, frommi, hamiltoni, koodoo, torticornis, zambesiensis .
