DISTRIBUTION: Originally from Transvaal and Natal south to Cape Prov. (South Africa); now only in captivity, or as reintroduced populations in Lesotho; Swaziland; Orange Free State, Cape Prov., Transvaal and Natal (South Africa).

SYNONYMS: capensis, connochaetes, operculatus.
