Sclerostomus truncatus Lüderwaldt, 1935

Sclerostomus truncatus Lüderwaldt 1935: 551 (description)

Sclerostomus truncatus Lüderwaldt. Didier & Séguy 1953: 166 (804) (catalog) (erroneously as Pycnosiphorus); Benesh 1960: 37 (catalog); Krajcik 2001: 19 (catalog); Krajcik 2003: 166 (catalog). Sclerostomus (Sclerostominus) truncatus Lüderwaldt. Weinreich 1960: 85 (description, key, and illustrations); Maes 1992: 52 (catalog).

This species was previously treated by Weinreich (1960) and the subgenus Sclerostominus erected for it. The characters used by Weinreich were the truncate anterior angles of the pronotum, setose mentum, and the lack of temporal processes in the male. Despite these autapomorphies, the species agrees with Sclerostomus in the characters used here to redefine the genus, thus we consider Sclerostominus to be a junior synonym of Sclerostomus, new synonymy .
