Remarks.
The specimens from Portugal morphologically match the description of N. elliptica . This species was originally described from Algeria (Walter 1925) and later on reported by Pešić et al. (2007) from Corsica (France) and Italy (Sardinia and Sicily). Neumania elliptica is a characteristic colonizer of pools in summer-warm lowland streams with silty substrate (Pešić et al. 2007).
The sequenced specimens from Portugal form a unique BIN (BOLD: AFU 2122), with the nearest neighboring BIN being BOLD: ACR 9513 (p - distance 19.16 %), which includes specimens of N. deltoides from the Netherlands, Macedonia and Turkey, available in BOLD.
