Diagnosis. A pale species with indistinct ochreous or brownish irroration on the forewing (Figs. 3–6). This species is distinct from E. bedellella not only by the difference in appearance but also in characteristics in both male and female genitalia. In the male genitalia these species differ by the very broad barrel-shaped phallus of E. lugdunensis that contains a cornutus consisting of small sclerotised plate with a long stout and straight tooth (Figs. 58 C, D). The juxta lobes of E. lugdunensis are long and narrow (best seen in lateral view) (Fig. 20). For identification of the female genitalia, see the diagnosis of E. bedellella above.
Distribution. SW Europe (France, Germany, Spain, Switzerland).
Remarks. Traugott-Olsen (1985) depicts the genitalia of the holotype of Elachista coeneni Traugott- Olsen; the characteristic cornutus of E. lugdunensis is well visible in the illustration.
