STATUS. — Two subspecies are present: F. t. tinnunculus Linnaeus, 1758, Palaearctic migrant and F. t. rufescens Swainson, 1837, Resident; Breeding.
REMARKS. — According to Borrow & Demey (2014) in Burkina Faso the species is present with both the Resident; Breeding F. t. rufescens and the Palaearctic migrant F. t. tinnunculus . The presence of the former is indicated by Thiollay (2006a, b), while the latter is reported in Weesie & Belemsobgo (1997), Thiollay (2006b). All the other references refer to the species as a whole.
