Costa Rica • Puntarenas Province, Karen Mogensen Wildlife Refuge; 09°52'16"N, 085°03'27"W; 302 m alt.; 07.02.2018; direct observation .
Identification.
Medium-large sized anteater. The coat is golden-brown. The tail is long and prehensile. This species is both terrestrial and arboreal. When walking the northern tamandua folds inwards the forefeet’s claws and places its weight on knuckles (Wainwright 2007; Reid and Gόmez Zamora 2022). Recorded in various habitat types in all seasons in the Wildlife Refuge.
