Phylogenetic relationships. In the phylogenetic hypothesis of Chintauan-Marquier et al. (submit.), Lernecella is the sistergroup of a wide assemblage including all the genera classified presently in the Luzarinae according to the Orthoptera Species File, in addition to Phalangopsis and Philippopsis . Desutter-Grandcolas (1992a) concluded that Lernecella may belong to another species group, different from those already defined within the Luzarinae; this hypothesis is supported by the molecular evidence.
