Holotype: not known to exist; Bollman (1893) cited the NMNH accession number (1909), but the specimen is not included in the latest type listing nor did I find it during a check of their types in 2004; type locality: Nicaragua .

Original rank: species. Current rank and status: synonym of S. viridis Say, 1821 (Kraepelin 1903) . Attems (1930) cited S. nicaraguensis as an unrecognizable species; Bücherl (1942 a) considered it valid; and Shelley (2002) included it among the species south of the US that conform in part to S. viridis .

Remarks: The name was omitted by Bücherl (1974).
