Holotype (not known to exist, not present at HNHM [Z. Korsós, pers. comm.]); type locality: Gran Chaco Resistentia, Argentina .

Original rank: species. Current rank and status: valid species (Bücherl 1942 a). This is the latest opinion on S. appendiculata, although Kraepelin (1903) and Attems (1930) regarded it as a questionable synonym of Hemiscolopendra laevigata (Porat, 1876); Bücherl (1942 a) cited it as both a valid species and a synonym of H. laevigata even though this violates the Code.
