Zadbimyia browni sp. n.
Figs 2 A, E, 5A–D
Diagnosis. Zadbimyia browni resembles Z. costaricensis in the parameres having a seemingly two-pointed apex and a single pair of apically curved processes. As a difference, the paramere shoulders are pronounced, almost rectangular in Z. browni (Fig. 5 B) but smooth in Z. costaricensis (Fig. 4 B). Also, the gonocoxal emargination in Z. browni is evenly U- rather than V-shaped, and densely setose laterally (Fig. 5 C).
Other male characters. Body length 1.8 mm. Head. Eye slightly narrowed ventrally, eye bridge 9–10 ommatidia long dorsally. Scape twice as long as pedicel. With 24 flagellomeres. Fourth flagellomere (Fig. 5 D): neck length 0.4 × node length, neck completely covered with microtrichia. Palpus 4-segmented, as long as length of head, fourth segment about as long as first to third segments combined. Thorax. Anepisternal setae sparse. Legs. Claws with tiny ancillary tooth subapically (Fig. 2 E). Terminalia. Posterior margin of tergite IX concave medially. Gonocoxites (Fig. 5 C): setae ventromedially sparse, antGA thick. Gonostylus slightly curved, on basal two thirds parallel-sided, then tapered toward apex, excavated dorsomedially (Fig. 5 A, C). Ejaculatory apodeme as long as parameres, equally wide even beyond accessory gland ducts (Fig. 5 B). Parameres (Fig. 5 B): basal portion subtrapezoidal, with rather long apodemes, apicomedial portion 1.5 times longer than wide.
Etymology. This species is named after Brian V. Brown, a world authority in the systematics of phorid flies and principle investigator of the ZADBI project.
